My Mom and Aunt's "Video Review" - Piranha 3D

Yes! My mom and aunt’s FIRST 3D movie…that’s too funny!
I personally enjoyed PIRANHA 3D…I knew exactly what I was walking into…BLOOD, BOOBS, AND MORE BLOOD AND BOOBS! People…this movie is nothing but fun.
No academy award winning performances here…so…remember that when you’re buying your movie ticket!

The movie starts off with a huge underwater earthquake that splits open the bottom of a lake…NOW…pay attention…once that crack opens up…under that…happens to be another underground lake…a prehistoric lake…with some prehistoric fish…fish with some serious attitude. Now…these cute, serious fish with an attitude – are hungry…HUNGRY FOR HUMAN FLESH!! (LOL) Sooo…this lake there in…well, it happens to be spring break…and what does that mean? FOOD…and lots of it!! Piranha 3D took me back to the old skool of blood, guts, and “T” and “A”. Be ready…cuz tha movie don’t play! The 3D’s in full affect!

(Guys – be ready for the underwater mermaids!) LOL

I give PIRANHA 3D…3 out of 5 POPCORNS!

Mike's Movie Review - Going the Distance

Checked out GOING THE DISTANCE...starring Drew Barrymore, Justin Long, and Christina Applegate. It actually opens on Friday, September 3 – but I snuck in from the roof to see an early screening.
So…What can I say about this one…well…THAT IT’S FREAKIN’ HILARIOUS! Ya’ll have to check this one out…people…you’ll laugh through the entire thing.

Don’t worry fellas…it’s NOT a chick flick…would I steer you wrong? NOOO!!

It’s a pretty simple story…boy meets girl…girl meets boy…they decide they enjoy each other’s company...neither of them are ready for a relationship…and…one happens to be moving back to their home town.
Well…nothing goes as planned and they fall in love. Now…the challenge…the LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP CRAP! I know, I know…sounds boring…sounds like a mushy movie. Well, it’s NOT. It’s what’s in between all that - - that makes this movie soooooo funny.

Fellas…you can learn something from this movie…and ladies…you can to!

Update - Movie Review - MACHETE

MACHETE hits theaters Friday, September 3rd

Mike's "Video" Movie Review - TAKERS

That was our 2 cents of TAKERS…like I said before…the movie starts off with crazy action…and keeps going. It’s got a great cast. It’s kind of like what THE EXPENDABLES did, but with a “new generation” feel.

I give TAKERS…4 out of 5 POPCORNS.

Mike's Netflix Movie Review - Hatchi: A Dog's Tale

HACHI: A DOG’S TALE is a must see!

You almost lose it just watching the trailer…and YES…you will lose it WATCHING THE MOVIE. (not going to lie – I lost several tears on this one.) The movie’s based on the true story of Hachico, an Akita dog in the 1920’s Japan remembered for his remarkable loyalty to his master.

It’s totally nuts what this dog does…crazy nuts. If you’re looking for a perfect…weekend…family movie. Watch this one!

I give HACHI: A DOG’S TALE…4 out of 5 POPCORNS!

Mike's Netflix Movie Review - From Paris with Love

Over the weekend…I watched some of my Netflix flicks…from the director of TAKEN and the producer of THE TRANSPORTER…I started off with FROM PARIS WITH LOVE.
I’m going to start off by saying…I wish I would have seen this in the theater…I just never had the chance nor time.

The movie’s about this low level assistant guy…who’s desperately wishes and hopes to get a promotion…out of the American embassy…and out into the field.
Well, he’s given that chance…to stop a terrorist plot. BUT…will he do it alone…NOPE!! Leading the terrorist chase…allow me to introduce…Charlie Wax (John Travolta)…who ends up being his kick ass partner.

TALK ABOUT NUTS. John Travolta totally makes the movie. FROM PARIS WITH LOVE is non-stop action! If you like spy stuff, movies that keep ya guessing, explosions, high speed chases, bullets flying, and kick as fighting.

Check this one out!

Heidi Montag Sex Tape

It looks like another sex tape is around the corner. Drum roll pleaseeeeee....

If you look below...check out the video from Vivid Entertainment president, Steven Hirsch.

Something's fishy: 'Piranha 3D' spawns a sequel

I'm down....are you?!

"Piranha 3D" may have only bit off a small portion of box office receipts this weekend, but the cash-strapped Weinstein Co. is already ready to take another dive into risky waters.

On Monday -- after an opening weekend during which "Piranha 3D" lured in a moderate $10 million in ticket sales -- Dimension Films said a sequel to the movie about flesh-eating fish is already "in the works." (News, undoubtedly, not being received well by Lake Havasu locals.)

A press release about the sequel touted the film's "80%-82% favorable reviews" on Rotten Tomatoes, along with "rave reviews from top critics" as evidence of the film's success.

Still, with news coming so quickly after the film's release, the announcement seems somewhat -- well, fishy.

Just a year ago, immediately after the opening of the Weinstein Co's "Halloween II," (which also fared modestly at the box office) the independent studio's co-chairman Bob Weinstein said a 3-D sequel was being developed. The release date for the potential "Halloween 3D?" Summer 2010.

Mike's Movie Review - Vampires Suck

People…NOW…I know why I hate movies like this...I never watch crap like this…but…I figured since it was about vampires...I would give it a try. HUGE MISTAK…and I’m talking about a HUGE MISTAKE!! But look on the bright side..I sacrificed myself for ya'll...so…DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$ on this piece of chit! It’s terrible.

The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles DVD

"The Ed Sullivan Show”...need I say more? If your a fan of the show OR THE BEATLES...this DVD is for YOU!

The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles
Available In Stores and Online 9/7 | Pre-Order on Amazon
Universal Music

When The Beatles stepped onto Sullivan’s New York stage on Sunday, February 9, 1964, to make their American TV debut, 86 percent of all TVs on at that hour--73 million Americans--tuned in. It was the most-watched program in history to that point and remains one of the most-watched programs of all time.

Nearly 50 years after the four landmark live performances of The Beatles on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” those legendary appearances with newly remastered audio and carefully restored video will finally be made available worldwide on home video through a major distributor. It was announced today by Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) and SOFA Entertainment that The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles will be released September 7, 2010, by UMe, a division of Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company. The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles was produced by SOFA Entertainment.

“The Beatles changed music and popular culture forever,” says Bruce Resnikoff, President & CEO, UMe. “This DVD collection contains treasured performances and UME is thrilled to bring these milestones of music and television history to fans, whether they saw the shows the first time or have never seen them.”
“We used the full extent of today’s technology,” says Andrew Solt, Executive Producer and CEO of SOFA Entertainment, which purchased all 1,050 hours of “The Ed Sullivan Show” in 1990. “The quality is better than it ever was, in fact, better than when the shows aired, especially visually. For example, the February 16 performance was from Miami’s Deauville Hotel, not from a studio. The quality of the tape image was very fragile. We went back and improved it frame by frame.”
With a running time of more than 250 minutes, The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles presents those shows uncut, including not only all of the other performances but also all of the original commercials. The audio is available in both mono and a 5.1 remix. Also included on the two-DVD set will be material from other “Sullivan” shows, notably a short interview with The Beatles which has not been seen since its original television airing in 1964.

Few moments of The Beatles’ performances had ever been seen before a similar DVD package debuted in 2003, but distribution was via a small independent company. Now through UMe, The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles will be widely available at traditional retail as well as non-traditional retail such as book stores, major department stores, specialty and high-end stores.

In addition, the new DVD set has been augmented with approximately 13 minutes of additional footage. The added material, rare Beatles-related gems from other “Sullivan” shows, is placed at the end of each disc. Among them is a brief London interview with The Beatles by Sullivan which has not been seen since the day it aired (May 24, 1964); a 1966 black-and-white commercial for Beatles dolls introduced by Sullivan in color; and the host reading a 1967 telegram from The Beatles congratulating him on the renaming of the studio to “The Ed Sullivan Theater.”
“Usually when there is a major historic moment, it’s seen on every channel,” notes Solt. “What makes the first Beatles performance so unusual is that ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ was the only place you could see it. Even though their music was everywhere, we had never seen them live. It was a shared joyous moment for an entire generation and still is today.”

The Beatles appeared live on “Sullivan” three more times--the following Sunday from Miami, a third consecutive show (February 23), and finally September 12, 1965. In all, the Fab Four performed 20 songs (15 different ones), from “All My Loving” and “I Saw Her Standing There” (twice each) to “I Want To Hold Your Hand” (three times), “Yesterday” and “Help!”

The Sunday night variety show, which ran from 1948 to 1971, was seen live in the Central and Eastern time zones but fortunately was taped for airing in the Pacific and Mountain time zones. Yet few tapes had been transferred to a contemporary format until Solt obtained the rights. Today he continues to transfer and remaster them. Solt’s other credits range from the 1979 TV special “Heroes Of Rock And Roll” and 1988 feature documentary “Imagine: John Lennon” to the 1991 Warner Brothers theatrical feature film “This is Elvis” to the 1995 TV documentary series “The History Of Rock ‘N’ Roll” and 2006 home video “Elvis: The Ed Sullivan Shows.”
“For so many people who experienced those first shows originally, including myself,” adds Solt, “we remember where we were. But we never saw them again. Now we can, and in context--the complete shows--with all the raw energy and excitement, the audience going crazy. There’s also a new generation, one that has bought the reissues, the Rock Band videogame, seen Paul McCartney play on the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater that’s the home of ‘The Late Show with David Letterman,’ heard the songs on ‘American Idol.’ They know the music so well even if they were born decades later. A word like ‘timeless’ gets overused but it definitely applies to The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles.”

Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World - Mike's Movie Review

I checked out SCOTT PILGRIM vs. THE WORLD yesterday.
I know some of you have been asking… “Mike, sooooo what did you think?” Well, I heard sooooo much hype while I was at Comic-Con this year…heard a lot of hype on Twitter…did it work for me?
Yeah…I thought it was cool…Did I get HYPED! Nahhh…But it worked for me.

The movie’s about a dude named, Scott Pilgrim. Who finally meets the love of his life…but before he can REALLY date her…he needs to fight and defeat her 7 evil ex’s…oh, and break up with his high school girlfriend.

Now…not going to lie…when it first started…I was kind of bored…just a slow start for me. I was asking myself… “Where’s the fighting?”…then…the first ex battle happens…BAM! Now…that was pretty cool…all the fights are like a huge, big video game…every time Scott defeats an ex – they turn into quarters. (LOL) All the fight scenes were hella cool though. You defiantly see something new on the big screen…the visual effects were tight.

So…I’ll leave you with this…If you’re looking for a fun movie to watch, a fan of comics, or a fan of the actual SCOTT PILGRIM vs. THE WORLD comic book series…you should hit the theater and see this one. But, if you don't fall in any of these categories...watch something else.

The Expendables - Mike's Movie Review

Mayne!! If you happen to follow me on Twitter (@mikethemovieguy)…you would have seen what I said immediately after walking out of the pre-screening for THE EXPENDABLES. If you missed it…well, here it is!!
THE EXPENDABLES freakin’ rocked!! Like I said before…the BEST action movie for 2010, definitely 2009, and maybe 2011! (LOL)

One minute into the movie…BAM, BOOM, POW…instant action…CRAZY ACTION! The movie stars some of the BIGGEST action stars ever to hit the big screen.

Arnold Schwarzenegger
Bruce Willis
Sylvester Stallone
Jason Statham
Jet Li
Dolph Lundgren
Randy Couture
Steve Austin
Mickey Rourke

…and more!

NOW…ladies…some of you might think it’s a movie about blowing stuff up…well…it’s NOT all that. THE EXPENDABLES has comedy and even a lil luv story. It’s a perfect date movie!
The movie’s about a group of mercenaries who are hired to sneak into a South American country to overthrow a ruthless dictator. Once the guys get there…they find more to the story and decide it’s a suicide mission…so they pull out. BUTTTTTTT…something happens…and well…they decide it’s worth dying for.

HUGEEEE EXPLOSIONS! Go see this when it comes out…either at midnight on Thursday…or Friday when it hits theaters nationwide…in fact…I’m watching it again.

I give THE EXPENDABLES…5 out of 5 POPCORNS…for being sooo kick ass!!

HBO to end 'Entourage' next summer!

HBO has made it official: "Entourage" will end next summer.

The network will order a shortened final season of its longest-running series, possibly only six episodes, which will bring the show to a conclusion in 2011.

"Next summer will definitely be the final season," HBO programming president Michael Lombardo told critics Saturday during the final day of the Television Critics Assn.'s summer press tour.

Lombardo added that creator Doug Ellin still might write a feature-length "Entourage" film, but he also noted that Ellin is pitching new projects to the network and that it's likely the writer-producer soon will be involved in another show.

As for the network's other long-running comedy, "Curb Your Enthusiasm," it has no end in sight. It is expected to return sometime next year.

Another HBO project, "The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency," is finished as a series, though like "Entourage" it could result in an HBO movie or two. »

Inception - Mike's Movie Review

I finally got the chance to watch INCEPTION…yeah, I know…I’m late…but…I was saving the best for last! Yeah…that was it. (LOL)
INCEPTION has a great cast…come on now…Leo. If you haven’t seen it yet…you should. You never know if your coming or going. I can see how my parents got lost. (LOL) It’s basically about a new type of spy action…where people can enter your dreams and find and steal your deepest secrets…and…that’s exactly what Leonardo does! He gathers some kick ass players and goes for his biggest challenge…all for his kids.

I would go in more details…but come on…aren’t I the ONLY one who hasn’t seen it?! (LOL) IF NOT…what are you waiting for? GO SEE INCEPTION!!

I give INCEPTION…4 out of 5 POPCORNS!

The Other Guys - Mike's Movie Review

One word for this one…HILARIOUS!!
This weekend people…you gotta see this one! Will Ferrell does what he does…but Mark Wahlberg…steals tha show!! Don’t get me wrong…love me some Will…but seeing Mark play this role. Ya gotta see it for yourself. The movie’s set in the Big Apple…these 2 cops (Mark and Will) don’t have the greatest respect from the department. One day, the 2 top cops (played by The Rock and Samuel L. Jackson) “loose” their status and Marky Mark feels that it’s their time to shine. A huge money scam goes down…they have to try and solve it…without getting fired!

The movie’s nuts! The theater audience laughed through the entire movie…even with screaming and talking babies! Oh, did I mention Eva Mendes is in the movie…HOT, HOT, HOT…heck, she’s always smoking!
The movie hits theaters tomorrow (Friday) so, sneak from work and check it out!

…make sure you stay AFTER the credits!

I give THE OTHER GUYS…3 ½ out of 5 POPCORNS! (would have been a 4 if the theaters sound was in STEREO!)

The Disappearance of Alice Creed - Mike's Movie Review

I had the chance to see this last night before opening tomorrow in selected theaters…THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ALICE CREED. It started pretty hot at the beginning…and I mean…hot as in temperature. The Angelika Film Center seemed to have a slight problem with their AC unit. (Wack!) The theater auditorium turned out ok though. Thanks for asking!

Ok, the movie. How was it? I enjoyed it. I actually like movies like this. Foreign films with tha British accents…but some of the peeps in my group weren’t too fond. (LOL) The movie’s about 2 guys who while in prison…plan the perfect kidnapping…once out…they put it in motion. (And do they!) 2 guys…grab girl…tie and gag girl…BUT…something goes wrong! The girl ACTUALLY sees and knows one of the kidnappers…oh yeah…this is where it gets twisted. So THEY decide on a different plan. Yeah…twisted stuff…it pretty much goes back and forth. OH...there's this scene...totally caught everyone off guard!!

If you like twisted thrillers that keeps you guessing on what’s going to happen next…you should check this one out.

Charlie St. Cloud - Mike's Movie Review

Before I start…I just want to WELCOME…the return of the “POPCORNS!” The “POPCORNS” are back…I know you’ve all missed them..and they’ll missed you. Second, I’m slowly getting back into the rhythm of writing…so bare with me…soon you’ll be asking me to stop! LOL

Ok…now back to business...

CHARLIE ST. CLOUD ~ now, I’m not going to lie. I’ve never been to a Zac Efron movie…at least by choice. But…there was something different about this one…once I saw the trailer…I said to myself, “Mike…you’re going to need to check this one out.” ANDDDDDD…I’m glad I did. This movie was great. It’s got some heavy hitters…Ray Liotta and Kim Basinger.

It’s basically about this kid…who loves to sail and who loves his little brother…he works hard and is headed in the right direction. But then… “SOMETHING” happens…something really bad. If you watch the trailer – you’ll get the picture. Now, what makes CHARLIE ST. CLOUD so great? It’s got everything. It’s got action, it makes you laugh, it’s got a little romance, and it makes ya cry.

Zac Efron does an incredible job in the movie. I don’t know where he went in his mind to pull off some of these scenes…but the boy is good. I’ll admit…after watching this…I’ll see his future movies!

I give CHARLIE ST. CLOUD…4 out of 5 Popcorns!!

Salt - Mike's Movie 411

Angelina Jolie is back!! Hot as ever! I checked out SALT…people…it’s an hour and 39 minutes on non-stop action. Seriously. It starts right in a tense situation…calms down for like 2 minutes…and then…BAM! BOOM! BAM!! Salt is jumping off bridges, jumping on moving cars, blasting Russian spies, jumping off trains, playing with spiders, and more! Salt is perfect for all action fans! Go see it when you get the chance.

Oh, did I mention…Angelina Jolie is a bad biatchhhh!!

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day - Mike's Netflix 411

Over the weekend…I checked out the boys…BOONDOCK SAINTS II: ALL SAINTS DAY. I’m going to say I still like the 1st one better…but II gets the job done. After everything takes place in Part 1 – the boys go in hiding…then “something” happens…which makes the boys pretty upset…then all hell breaks loose. The boys pick up another sidekick…who is crazy as hell…and they go on a killing spree! (LOL) This movie’s pretty simple. Violence. If you like guns, action, blood, explosions, and Part 1…rent ALL SAINTS DAY…you’ll enjoy this one like I did.

Predators - Mike's Movie 411

Predators…I saw this a while back. Some of my peeps didn’t feel it…but ME…AWESOME! Anything with a Predator in it…I love. The cool thing about Predators is…it’s got a great cast…plenty of Predators…and plenty of violence! It pretty much takes place after the original Predator…basically, it’s about a group of highly trained killers who are pulled from their “areas” and brought to a world…a world where their the pray.

Did Robert Rodriguez do it? Yep…High 5 to him!

The Sorcerer's Apprentice - Mike's Movie 411

I know this movie got a bad rap…not making a lot of movie. BUT…I enjoyed it. I thought Nicolas Cage was funny… Jay Baruchel was funny…great special effects…AND Monica Bellucci is SMOKIN!! If you’re looking for a movie for the entire family…check out THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE.
