Survival of the Dead - Mike's NetFlix 411

Now, if ya’ll didn’t know – George A. Romero’s SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD hit theaters this past Friday…problem was…only in selected cities. Was Houston one of those cities? HELLL NAWWW!! Sooo…I had to think of a master plan in seeing it - - was I going to jump on a plane and see it? Hellll Nawwww…so what did I do?

Video on Demand! (LOL) Yep. My VOD on my TV. Can’t be mad at that!

If you love zombies like I do – this is a must see. George A. Romero brings it back to the big screen. SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD actually takes place DURING the DIARY OF THE DEAD…how you may ask? SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD is the story of the soldiers who decide to leave and make it on their own from DIARY OF THE DEAD. The soldiers find out that there’s an island where it’s safe…with no zombies. SO THEY THINK. Not only do they have to deal with zombies…but they have to deal with 2 families and their on-going family feud.

Like I said…it’s got blood…guts…brains…and ZOMBIES!

Enjoy it!

The Decent: Part 2 - Mike's DVD 411

I bought this DVD yesterday while at Best Buy…and I’m glad I did! The Decent: Part 2 was just as good as the first one! The Crawlers are back! These damn things are bigger and crazier. The Decent: Part 2 takes place with Sarah - - after she’s picked up from the road – covered in blood – she is taken to the hospital. She’s got blood all over her…and it’s NOT her own. Her friends are missing…so what does the sheriff do - takes HER and a rescue party BACK to the caves for answers. (LOL) Ok, for now – Sarah can’t remember crap on what happened (Part 1) - - once down in the caverns - - EVERYTHING comes back - - (LOL) The Crawlers are back…and their hungry!!

If you haven’t seen the first one – please it before watching Part 2 – even though Part 2 starts…2 days after Part 1 (in movie time) and explains everything that has happened - - BUT - - WHY WOULD YOU WANNA DO THAT?!

Rent Part 1…watch it…then rent Part 2…and watch it! THERE YOU GO - - A DOUBLE FEATURE!!

Spread - Mike's NetFlix 411

Movie night continued with Ashton Kutcher’s flick, SPREAD. This movie came out back in 2009 – I wanted to see this one but never got the chance…that’s where NetFlix comes in. This one was really good. Ashton Kutcher plays a dude named Nikki. He’s got no house, no car, no job – how does he survive? By sleeping with woman. (LOL) Not going to lie – when you start watching it - - he’s cool, then becomes an ass pretty fast. Then one day – he meets his match – the HOT and SEXY, Margarita Levieva (might have seen her in - Adventureland and The Invisible) who plays Heather in tha flick.

SPREAD is a movie worth checking out – shows ya “what comes around, goes around.” – ya gotta love Karma.

Crazy Heart - Mike's NetFlix 411

For the Memorial Day weekend - I decided to have a movie marathon - on my list - Jeff Bridges in CRAZY HEART. I must say, I should have checked this one out in the theater - - but - - I waited. It's got a great cast - Robert Duvall's in it...and we all know how he kicks ass!!

Crazy Heart's about a 65 year old country singer - who travels from small town to small town - he meets a single mom and her little boy and his life starts to change...or does it? (Don’t wanna ruin it for ya.)
One of the cool things about CRAZY HEART's filmed in Houston. Houston represent!! There's a couple of shots of downtown and the underground shopping center! And…the best thing was - - this movie doesn't make us look all country, cowboys, and horses! (LOL)

If you’re looking for a movie to see - check out CRAZY HEART.

Gotta luv tha "H"...

Seventh Moon - Mike's NetFlix 411

Mayne, here’s another one that I watched on - - once I started watching this - - I was thinking, “Mike – maybe you should watch this on your big TV.” But…I kept going via internet. SEVENTH MOON stars my x-girlfriend, Amy Smart (hotty!) and is directed by the same dude who did The Blair Witch Project.

Seventh Moon is about a young couple who decide to honeymoon in China (Bad move there!) Once they get there – the arrive during the Hungry Ghost festival. (Yep, you know where this is going.) They get in the cab with their tour guide (Why I don’t trust them) and make the trip to visit the hubby’s parents…afta driving for a few hours…the cab driver stops for directions…while his asking…SOMETHING happens. (The blood begins!) The festival’s legend might be true…all HELL BREAKS LOOSE.

Can the couple survive the night of the Seventh Moon? Watch and see….

It's a dope flick!!

The Children - Mike's NetFlix 411

I love - it's a dope site for horror fans like myself. Cool site to meet people, read reviews, and watch FREE movies! The other night while sitting in the office - I watched an online flick called, THE CHILDREN.

THE CHILDREN is about these 2 families - who decide to spend a Christmas vacation together...all of a sudden...the children start getting sick…I don’t know what kind of sick they got buy… the children decide...let’s kill tha mommy's and daddy's…and older sister!! (LOL) It starts off slow...but once those little demons go nuts...the killing begins!!

Check out the trailer below!

Don't worry, the NetFlix version was in English.

Dennis Hopper R.I.P. 1936-2010

Another awful day for Hollywood. One of the great actors and filmmakers in cinema's long history, Dennis Hopper died this morning at the age of 74 following a months-long battle with prostate cancer. The star of "Easy Rider" (which he also directed), "Hoosiers," "Blue Velvet" and "Speed," the actor also turned out memorable roles in a range of classics: "Rebel Without A Cause," "Cool Hand Luke," "True Grit," "Apocalypse Now" and even Kevin Costner's 1995 camp-filled flop, "Waterworld."

The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass—and now is back in town—to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor.

As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past—from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsomely identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.

Upcoming film, Immortals

This one sounds P R E E T Y dope!

On 11/11/11, witness the 3-D epic battle as mere men become Immortals.

Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares.

Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the king’s hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man’s conflict. They remain powerless to stop Hyperion…until a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth as their only hope.

Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes. Rallying a band of fellow outsiders—including visionary priestess Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and cunning slave Stavros (Stephen Dorff)—one hero will lead the uprising, or watch his homeland fall into ruin and his Gods vanish into legend.

The 3-D epic adventure Immortals is directed by revolutionary visualist Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) and produced by Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton, the producers of 300, as well as Ryan Kavanaugh (Dear John, The Dark Fields).

R.I.P. Lena Horne

She died tonight at a hospital in Manhattan. She was 92. The modern-day world knew her best as a singer. But Lena Horne was the first black performer signed to a long-term contract by a major Hollywood studio -- in 1942 she appeared in Panama Hattie for MGM where she languished in mostly musicals, her film career thwarted by the color of her skin. She started in the chorus at The Cotton Club, graduated to Broadway and then the movies. Her last film was 1978's The Wiz. She came back to Broadway to win a Tony Award for her 1981 one-woman show: "Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music". But she gained her status as a living legend primarily as a recording artist and nightclub singer. One-time New York Times' Hollywood correspondent Aljean Harmetz has penned a wonderfully detailed obituary here.

Not sure if some of you heard yet - but my favorite person (NOT) is doing everything in her power NOT to allow this old sex tape to get out to the public. The funny thing is - she's going to let the whole sex tape thing play out on her reality show...hmmmmm.

'Iron Man 2' has 'The Dark Knight' in its sights

The new superhero film could surpass the older one and post a record for the biggest domestic first weekend.

By Ben Fritz, Los Angeles Times

May 7, 2010

Robert Downey Jr. returns as Tony Stark in "Iron Man 2." Opening-weekend ticket sales of at least $140 million seem assured for the superhero sequel, people who closely follow tracking predict. (Francois Duhamel / Paramount Pictures/MCT)
There's only one question as " Iron Man 2" debuts this weekend: Will it post a record for an opening weekend, or merely be one of the biggest?

Pre-release surveys indicate that moviegoer interest in seeing the sequel to Marvel Entertainment's 2008 superhero hit starring Robert Downey Jr. is in the stratosphere.

Opening-weekend ticket sales of at least $140 million seem assured, people who closely follow tracking predicted, and "Iron Man 2" has a good shot at grossing as much as $160 million.

The biggest previous domestic first weekend was "The Dark Knight," which opened to $158.4 million in 2008. Ticket prices have risen substantially since then, however, so although "Iron Man 2" could post the biggest opening ever in raw dollars, it's much less likely to do so when accounting for inflation.

Unlike the most successful movies of 2010 to date — "Avatar," "Alice in Wonderland," "How to Train Your Dragon" and "Clash of the Titans" — "Iron Man 2" is not being shown in 3-D, so its box-office total won't benefit from ticket price surcharges of more than $3.

Although "Iron Man 2" has a shot at setting a box-office record for the weekend, it's less likely to post a Friday record. The movie doesn't appear to have enough rabid fans panting to see the first possible show. Online pre-sales — typically a good indicator — aren't even among the top 25 of all time on ticketing websites Fandango and

As a result, debut midnight screenings Thursday night are expected to generate only a few million dollars. "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," by way of comparison, took in $26 million.

"Iron Man 2" had grossed $133 million from the 53 foreign markets where it opened last week through Wednesday. This week it debuts in four more foreign countries: China, Finland, India and Turkey. The combined worldwide gross is likely to exceed $300 million by Sunday, putting the movie on track to be a financial juggernaut for Marvel and its parent, Walt Disney Co. Paramount Pictures gets

8% of revenue for distributing the film after theaters take their share of ticket sales.

The movie cost about $170 million to produce, and worldwide print and advertising costs are roughly $150million, people familiar with the situation said.

Only one new movie is going up against "Iron Man 2," and it's not exactly looking for the same-caliber opening. Universal Pictures' independent division Focus Features will launch the documentary "Babies," which tells the story of four infants in different parts of the world, in 534 theaters. That includes a mix of art-house theaters and multiplexes in big cities and suburbs.

Focus is hoping that the movie will take in several million dollars by appealing to a mix of traditional documentary fans as well as families drawn to the picture's adorable little stars.

"You couldn't get better counterprogramming against 'Iron Man' than this, and you couldn't find a movie better for Mother's Day than one about babies," Focus distribution President Jack Foley said.

Trae Tha Truth Files Lawsuit Against Radio One

May 4, 2010

Dateline Houston, Texas

Houston Rapper Trae Tha Truth files lawsuit against Radio One

Houston, TX - Houston rapper Trae Tha Truth (nee Frasier Thompson) will be holding a press conference at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the Harris County Civil Courthouse to announce the filing of a lawsuit in the 189th District Court of Harris County Texas, 201 Caroline, 12th Floor, Houston, Texas, against Radio One, which owns and operates Houston radio Station 97.9 KBXX, The Box.

The civil case alleges a consistent pattern of business disparagement, conspiracy and tortious interference. Defendants include Radio One, the radio station’s general manager Doug Abernathy, program manager Terri Thomas and morning show radio personality Nnete Inyangumia. Trae decided to file the lawsuit after the radio station officially banned his music from receiving airplay, and then began to interfere in his relationships with other music industry professionals. Radio One is the seventh largest radio broadcasting company in the country, and is the largest one targeting African American audiences in the U.S. The Box is the only hip hop radio station in Houston.

The suit, which will be filed by Houston attorney Warren Fitzgerald Jr., alleges that Trae was the subject of a radio ban after Nnete falsely accused Trae during an on-air interview of causing the violence which occurred at public festival which he sponsored. Ironically, Trae has arguably been the most active Houston rap artist when it comes to serving the local community. In 2008, Trae was honored by Houston Mayor Bill White and Council Member Peter Brown with his own “Trae Day” in honor of his outstanding community service.

After Nnete had made the disparaging remark about Trae on the radio, he later released a “mix tape” that had a humorous lyric about Nnette’s weight.

Trae notes, “I would not have filed a lawsuit, but when other people started being hurt by this ban, I knew I had to stand up.” The suit also alleges that a radio station staff member was suspended for a week and a half without pay for making a mixtape outside of work that had Trae’s music in it. The employee, in fear of losing his job, and the ability to feed his family, had to end his relationship with Trae. Another alleged incident occurred when rapper 6tre Gangsta, an artist signed to Battery/Sony Records, asked Trae to be on his new single. However when KBXX found out about the song, they notified 6tre that the song would be banned. This resulted in the record community scrapping both the song and the music video that had been slated for BET.

Even Haitian earthquake victims lost out, due to the station refusing to advertise Trae’s appearance at a benefit fundraiser. Other alleged incidents are listed in the lawsuit, the most recent being the firing of the “Kracker Nuttz,” an on air DJ tandem, for their accidentally playing a song on the air by Chamillionaire, which they did not realize had Trae on one of its verses. Ironically, the “Kracker Nuttz”, who were 12-year veterans of the station, had the Number One rated radio show there.

Rap-A-Lot Records CEO, James Prince states, “I had been excited about being involved with the next Trae album, but with this ban taking place, not only in his home town, but likely also in the second best place for airplay, which is Dallas, it would be impossible to promote the album. This ban is sabotaging his career, because those cities are the foundation for breaking his records.” Prince adds, “Having run a record label for over twenty years, I’ve never seen anything like this.”

Says Trae, “I just could not let any more people suffer and be punished by the radio station over this ridiculous vendetta.”

Trae’s attorney Warren Fitzgerald Jr. comments, “We believe that the defendants have gone beyond the parameters of legally sanctioned activity in first banning Trae’s music, then going so far as to intentionally interfere with his business relationships and thus destroy his career. I find this behavior repulsive, especially for a radio station that daily champions itself as music artists “best friend.”

Trae is suing for general damages to his reputation, character, standing in the community, mental suffering, loss of professional opportunities, performance revenue, record royalties and other damages.

Judge Randy Williams issued a restraining order prohibiting the radio station from destroying any evidence, including memoranda or emails surrounding the ban on Trae’s music.

A preliminary hearing is set for May 14, 2010 at 1:30 pm.

ROBIN HOOD Synopsis:
Oscar winner Russell Crowe stars as the legendary figure known by generations as "Robin Hood," whose exploits have endured in popular mythology and ignited the imagination of those who share his spirit of adventure and righteousness. In 13th century England, Robin and his band of marauders confront corruption in a local village and lead an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power. And whether thief or hero, one man from humble beginnings will become an eternal symbol for freedom for his people.

Robin Hood chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self—preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion (Oscar winner Cate Blanchett), a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.

With their country weakened from decades of war, embattled from the ineffective rule of the new king and vulnerable to insurgencies from within and threats from afar, Robin and his men heed a call to ever greater adventure. This unlikeliest of heroes and his allies set off to protect their country from slipping into bloody civil war and return glory to England once more.
