Defiance - Mike's Movie Review

Shout outs to James Bond here! I finally got to see this movie! Defiance. Yep, Daniel Craig is Tuvia Bielski. Mayne, this was a really good movie. It's a True Story...bout some Jewish brothers who escape from Poland into the forests of Belarus during World War II.

Now, at first - their just trying to escape all the craziness - but then...their asked to take on the responsibility of hiding a few Jewish refugees...well, these few begin to grow and grow. These brothers saved more than 1,000 Jews from persecution and death. It's pretty intense what they went through.

Defiance is definitely a movie worth checking out!

The Walking Dead Comic

Check it out peeps - I started reading a new zombie comic - well, I know it's not ACTUALLY new - but it's new to me. (LOL)

I must say, it's a damn good comic! I read my very first one...#1 one in under 40 minutes...NOW, I have to get #2, #3, and so on! (LOL) I just wanted to pass it along - you looking for some new reading material - check it out when you get the chance.
(The artworks dope!)

Here's a little synopsis from good ole Wikipedia!

The Walking Dead is centered around Rick, a small-town police officer from Cynthiana, Kentucky, his family, and a number of other survivors who have banded together in order to survive after the world is overrun with zombies. As the series progresses, the characters become more developed, and their personalities shift under the stress of a zombie apocalypse. Fighting growing despair — and sometimes each other — the group searches for a secure location which they can finally call home.

American Werewolf in London Remake

Just what we needed another remake. An American Werewolf in London has been bought up by the Weinsteins and will be remade. I actually really enjoyed An American Werewolf in Paris but have next to no expectations I will like this remake.

I fear a poor casting job and even worse writing will ruin it but one can only hope it will be good. BD reports that John Landis sold the rights and Slashfilm is indicating he did it because he is strapped for cash. Stay tuned. Thanks to Ankman for the heads up.

'Transformers' scores $60.6 mil on day 1

AMSTERDAM -- Paramount's action sequel "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" -- which screened for a receptive group of European exhibitors at the Cinema Expo confab here earlier this week -- rang up $60.6 million in its first day in domestic release.

Par released the early estimate of first-day boxoffice Thursday morning. The figure included more than $16 million from midnight Wednesday performances, as the 2 1/2-hour, Michael Bay-helmed pic -- in which Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox reprise topliner roles -- seems well positioned to hit, and most likely to surpass, its projected $150 million-plus in opening-frame boxoffice through Sunday.

The Paramount/DreamWorks co-production vaulted ahead of 2007's "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," which bowed to a one-day gross of $44.2 million, to become the biggest Wednesday opener at the North American boxoffice.

And in terms of both one-day grossers and opening-day grossers, it now ranks second, behind only last year's formidable "The Dark Knight," which opened on a Friday to $67.2 million, having squeezed ahead of 2007's "Spider-Man 3," which debuted to $59.8 million.

Hasbro is a co-producer of the pic, which like its 2007 predecessor is based on a line of toy action figures. The first "Transformers" movie made more than $708 million worldwide.

'Watchmen' director's cut to theaters

Four cities to screen pic a week before Comic-Con

Warner Bros. is giving Zack Snyder's director's cut of "Watchmen" a limited theatrical rollout one week before Comic-Con International in San Diego.

The cut, which will have an additional 25 minutes of footage including the death of a supporting character, will screen in Los Angeles, New York, Minneapolis and Dallas before the movie is released on Blu-ray and DVD on July 21.

The rollout will culminate with a special screening July 25 at Comic-Con that is designed to act as a BD-Live event, a Blu-ray feature that will allow any viewer in North America to watch the movie simultaneously as the audience at Comic-Con, see and hear Snyder comment on the movie, and even ask questions. The screening will then be archived and will be able to be accessed for future viewings.

"Comic-Con, it isn't just comic book fanatics, it's cinephiles as well. It'll be cool to discuss what people are thinking," Snyder said at a "Watchmen" press day, held Wednesday at Warner Bros., where the news was unveiled. The day was designed to showcase a bonus Blu-ray feature called Maximum Movie Mode as well as features to be seen in Snyder's Blu-ray release of "300: The Complete Experience."

"Warner Bros. is hoping to use the filmmakers of its movies to produce immersive home movie experiences."

"We're lucky to have filmmakers at Warners that believe in that," said Warners vp high-def market expansion Kris Brown.

The theatrical rerelease is unusual, as the movie is generally considered to be a bit of a boxoffice disappointment, with only $107.5 million grossed domestically. Critics were also divided about the movie, with some saying it was too slavish to the graphic novel's many devotees.

Snyder, however, stood by it. "I'm proud of the movie. It does everything I wanted it to," he said.

Michael Jackson dead!

Pop star Michael Jackson has died after suffering a heart attack, it has been reported.

Media reports have said the star, 50, was taken to hospital in Los Angeles after he was found not breathing in his Holmby Hills home earlier.

Celebrity website TMZ said 911 operators received an emergency call about 12.12pm local time (5.12am AEST).

"We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back," the website reported.

Jackson is believed to have gone into cardiac arrest and paramedics performed CPR on him en route to UCLA hospital.

The website quoted family members as saying the Thriller singer was in "really bad shape."

"We just got off the phone with Joe Jackson, Michael's dad, who says 'he is not doing well.'' the website had earlier reported.

Jackson was reportedly planning a comeback and was living in Los Angeles while rehearsing a series of 50 sold-out shows in London, the LATimes has reported.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics had rushed to the singer's $100,00-a-month rented home near Sunset Boulevard to find him not breathing, according to the newspaper.

'Charlie's Angel' Farrah Fawcett dies at 62

LOS ANGELES – Farrah Fawcett, the "Charlie's Angels" star whose feathered blond hair and dazzling smile made her one of the biggest sex symbols of the 1970s, died Thursday after battling cancer. She was 62.

The pop icon, who in the 1980s set aside the fantasy girl image to tackle serious roles, died shortly before 9:30 a.m. in a Santa Monica hospital, spokesman Paul Bloch said.

Ryan O'Neal, the longtime companion who had reunited with Fawcett as she fought anal cancer, was at her side, along with close friend Alana Stewart, Bloch said.

"After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away," O'Neal said. "Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world."

She burst on the scene in 1976 as one-third of the crime-fighting trio in TV's "Charlie's Angels." A poster of her in a clingy swimsuit sold in the millions.

She left the show after one season but had a flop on the big screen with "Somebody Killed Her Husband." She turned to more serious roles in the 1980s and 1990s, winning praise playing an abused wife in "The Burning Bed."

She had been diagnosed with cancer in 2006. As she underwent treatment, she enlisted the help of O'Neal, who was the father of her now 24-year-old son, Redmond.

This month, O'Neal said he asked Fawcett to marry him and she agreed. They would wed "as soon as she can say yes," he said.

Her struggle with painful treatments and dispiriting setbacks was recorded in the television documentary "Farrah's Story." Fawcett sought cures in Germany as well as the United States, battling the disease with iron determination even as her body weakened.

"Her big message to people is don't give up, no matter what they say to you, keep fighting," her friend Stewart said. NBC estimated the May 15, 2009, broadcast drew nearly 9 million viewers.

In the documentary, Fawcett was seen shaving off most of her trademark locks before chemotherapy could claim them. Toward the end, she's seen huddled in bed, barely responding to a visit from her son.

Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith made up the original "Angels," the sexy, police-trained trio of martial arts experts who took their assignments from a rich, mysterious boss named Charlie (John Forsythe, who was never seen on camera but whose distinctive voice was heard on speaker phone.)

The program debuted in September 1976, the height of what some critics derisively referred to as television's "jiggle show" era, and it gave each of the actresses ample opportunity to show off their figures as they disguised themselves in bathing suits and as hookers and strippers to solve crimes.

Backed by a clever publicity campaign, Fawcett — then billed as Farrah Fawcett-Majors because of her marriage to "The Six Million Dollar Man" star Lee Majors — quickly became the most popular Angel of all.

Her face helped sell T-shirts, lunch boxes, shampoo, wigs and even a novelty plumbing device called Farrah's faucet. Her flowing blond hair, pearly white smile and trim, shapely body made her a favorite with male viewers in particular.

A poster of her in a dampened red swimsuit sold millions of copies and became a ubiquitous wall decoration in teenagers' rooms.

Thus the public and the show's producer, Spelling-Goldberg, were shocked when she announced after the series' first season that she was leaving television's No. 5-rated series to star in feature films. (Cheryl Ladd became the new "Angel" on the series.)

But the movies turned out to be a platform where Fawcett was never able to duplicate her TV success. Her first star vehicle, the comedy-mystery "Somebody Killed Her Husband," flopped and Hollywood cynics cracked that it should have been titled "Somebody Killed Her Career."

The actress had also been in line to star in "Foul Play" for Columbia Pictures. But the studio opted for Goldie Hawn instead. "Spelling-Goldberg warned all the studios that that they would be sued for damages if they employed me," Fawcett told The Associated Press in 1979. "The studios wouldn't touch me."

She finally reached an agreement to appear in three episodes of "Charlie's Angels" a season, an experience she called "painful."

She returned to making movies, including the futuristic thriller "Logan's Run," the comedy-thriller "Sunburn" and the strange sci-fi tale "Saturn 3," but none clicked with the public.

Fawcett fared better with television movies such as "Murder in Texas," "Poor Little Rich Girl" and especially as an abused wife in 1984's "The Burning Bed." The last earned her an Emmy nomination and the long-denied admission from critics that she really could act.

As further proof of her acting credentials, Fawcett appeared off-Broadway in "Extremities" as a woman who is raped in her own home. She repeated the role in the 1986 film version.

Not content to continue playing victims, she switched type. She played a murderous mother in the 1989 true-crime story "Small Sacrifices" and a tough lawyer on the trail of a thief in 1992's "Criminal Behavior."

She also starred in biographies of Nazi-hunter Beate Klarsfeld and photographer Margaret Bourke-White.

"I felt that I was doing a disservice to ourselves by portraying only women as victims," she commented in a 1992 interview.

In 1995, at age 50, Fawcett posed partly nude for Playboy magazine. The following year, she starred in a Playboy video, "All of Me," in which she was equally unclothed while she sculpted and painted.

She told an interviewer she considered the experience "a renaissance," adding, "I no longer feel ... restrictions emotionally, artistically, creatively or in my everyday life. I don't feel those borders anymore."

Fawcett's most unfortunate career moment may have been a 1997 appearance on David Letterman's show, when her disjointed, rambling answers led many to speculate that she was on drugs. She denied that, blaming her strange behavior on questionable advice from her mother to be playful and have a good time.

In September 2006, Fawcett, who at 59 still maintained a strict regimen of tennis and paddleball, began to feel strangely exhausted. She underwent two weeks of tests and was told the devastating news: She had anal cancer.

O'Neal, with whom she had a 17-year relationship, again became her constant companion, escorting her to the hospital for chemotherapy.

"She's so strong," the actor told a reporter. "I love her. I love her all over again."

She struggled to maintain her privacy, but a UCLA Medical Center employee pleaded guilty in late 2008 to violating federal medical privacy law for commercial purposes for selling records of Fawcett and other celebrities to the National Enquirer.

"It's much easier to go through something and deal with it without being under a microscope," she told the Los Angeles Times in an interview in which she also revealed that she helped set up a sting that led to the hospital worker's arrest.

Her decision to tell her own story through the NBC documentary was meant as an inspiration to others, friends said. The segments showing her cancer treatment, including a trip to Germany for procedures there, were originally shot for a personal, family record, they said. And although weak, she continued to show flashes of grit and good humor in the documentary.

"I do not want to die of this disease. So I say to God, `It is seriously time for a miracle,'" she said at one point.

Born Feb. 2, 1947, in Corpus Christi, Texas, she was named Mary Farrah Leni Fawcett by her mother, who said she added the Farrah because it sounded good with Fawcett. She was less than a month old when she underwent surgery to remove a digestive tract tumor with which she was born.

After attending Roman Catholic grade school and W.B. Ray High School, Fawcett enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin. Fellow students voted her one of the 10 most beautiful people on the campus and her photos were eventually spotted by movie publicist David Mirisch, who suggested she pursue a film career. After overcoming her parents' objections, she agreed.

Soon she was appearing in such TV shows as "That Girl," "The Flying Nun," "I Dream of Jeannie" and "The Partridge Family."

Majors became both her boyfriend and her adviser on career matters, and they married in 1973. She dropped his last name from hers after they divorced in 1982.

By then she had already begun her long relationship with O'Neal. Both Redmond and Ryan O'Neal have grappled with drug and legal problems in recent years.

We Bite into 'True Blood' Season 2 with Creator Alan Ball

By now, you've had a chance to digest the first episode of True Blood Season 2, and we know that you're thirsting for more. And while creator Alan Ball might have gotten one cliffhanger out of the way, he's opened a Pandora's box of questions for fans. Your favorite characters have been resurrected and they are definitely making up for lost time. This season finds Sookie and Bill trying to keep their relationship afloat and stay alive in Dallas, Jason joining an anti-vampire cult, and Tara taking up with a total goddess who likes to party more than she does.

Lucky for you we have something to satiate your hunger for answers until your next True Blood fix. We recently hopped on a conference call with Alan Ball, who was able to shed some light on the gory storyline, on who could be this season's newest villain, and on why we all find vampires impossible to resist.

On up-ing the gory and sexy goodness this season:

Personally, there's a scene where Sookie and Bill make love in the first episode that [on the page] said, "Sookie and Bill make love," and then I saw the dailies – you know I wasn't there when they shot it – and I went, "Oh wow! Okay!"

But, you know, I love it. I think that's part of what the appeal of the show is. I don't think we do anything gratuitously, but it's important to show there is this incredible erotic chemistry. These two people who thought that they had no chance to ever have a real love affair and they found each other, and there's something fantastic and mind-blowing about that.

I did feel like it was important to make Eric more frightening, to see his more monstrous side, because as the season progresses we also see his more human side…Vampires are capable of being monsters and violent. And it was important to have the character, that will remain nameless, who has to deal with all that to suffer from a kind of PTSD over the season because you don't just want to have all that horrible gore and awful psychological experience for him and have him be okay the next day. That's not the way it happens in life.

On how he keeps Sookie and Bill's relationship fresh:

This year Sookie goes to Dallas to help Eric find a vampire. Ultimately we actually broke down the timeline and season 2 takes place in 12 days. When a lot of that time is spent running for your lives or trying not to get killed or trying to get past this or that obstacle that keeps you from each other it's not really hard.

They don't really have time to run into the same kind of relationship things that us mere mortals do. They are basically just trying to get through the day without getting killed.

On Sookie and Bill's real-life romance:

They are such consummate professionals that it doesn't effect filming whatsoever. It only effects filming in the sense that they're incredibly comfortable with each other …and I'm very happy for both of them.

On malicious characters and fiends yet to come:

I don't think people who are actually evil know they are evil or believe that they are evil. I think they believe in some way that their actions are justified. So I would hesitate to say Maryann is the most evil though she definitely revels in chaos and destruction. She doesn't look at it from the polarities of good and evil.

In terms of someone who really enjoys being cruel and sadistic and has a really dark vision it's a character that has not shown up yet. It's another vampire from Dallas.

On how the undead do Dallas:

We chose to show a very different side of vampire culture and that's the kind of sophisticated vampire culture and that's in the big city. The hotel that caters to vampires is very upscale.

On why Jason is wearing clothes and when they're coming off:

I think once we started to flesh him out – no pun intended – we started looking at him and saw that he is sexually compulsive.

In the second season he's very much aware of a big hole he has in the center of his soul and he's looking for something to fill that and he – as many people do – latches onto religion. He becomes part of this organization that makes him feel special, that makes him feel good and gifted, and that really means a lot to him.

But, as time goes on, he realizes that the organization that he's involved with doesn't really have anything to do with the fundamental message of Jesus.

But, of course, as time goes on... let's just say Jason can't leave his clothes on too long.

On the dueling cult storylines and possible backlash from real-life zealots:

I don't think vampire fans are going to associate themselves with anti-vampire zealots… I think people who are overwhelmed by pleasure will love the show. The kind of people who would say oh they are making fun of me or that's casting me in a bad light are not really the kind of people who are going to be watching the show. They are watching Fox news.

On why he can't get enough of Charlene Harris' series:

One of the things that really appealed to me about Charlene's books when I was reading them was that it's so much fun and I can't put them down. It has an emotional basis, but it is also just crazy fun.

Uh Excuse me?

Oh, well, um, he directed a bunch of commercials and music videos like Nirvana’s 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. And well, he’s attached to direct another thriller for Platinum Dunes titled Fiasco Heights. We're not 100% certain, but this could prove to be an interesting pairing.

Also according to the report, Robert Englund will NOT reprise his role as the iconic Freddy Krueger (although there has been much talk of bringing him back for another role). I’ll wait a moment while you erupt. And like the Platinum Dunes Friday the 13th reimagining, The A Nightmare on Elm Street remake will include plot lines from several films of the franchise. Does that mean a revisit from the 'Dream Warriors'? Oh boy.

A Nightmare on Elm Street “reimagining” will start shooting this spring.

'Dawn of the Dead' Mall in 'Left 4 Dead'

This may be the horror nerds biggest wet ream come true, the mall from Zack Snyder’s remake of the Romero classic, Dawn of the Dead will be making an appearance in Left 4 Dead , dig it! Hit the jump for full details, and pray they decide to do the same for the mall from the original.

According to

Dead Before Dawn, the replica of the Crossroads Mall from the movie Dawn of the Dead (2004) is coming to Left 4 Dead. The DBD team has been working tirelessly on the campaign and has vowed not to stop until the campaign is ready for release. Valve has now confirmed that next week we will have our dirty paws on the full version of the SDK and we're ready for it.

We have added to the team: a pro scripter/coder. His name is pshycokilla. He's creating all the events in the game, from triggers to the multiple crescendos. These triggers and other scripts in the campaign, ensure that you need to play the campaign at least 16 times before you have played every possible event in the campaign.

While this appears to be strictly a user mod, and it's unclear if it will be sanctioned by Valve, it sounds and looks pretty sweet. What do you zombie fighters think? You in?

Ed McMahon dies at 86

Ed McMahon, who created the trademark "Heeeeeeeere's Johnny!" when he introduced host Johnny Carson for decades on the "Tonight Show," died Tuesday of a "multitude of health problems" at UCLA's Ronald Reagan Hospital, his spokesman said. He was 86.

Known to millions as Carson's steady sidekick on the venerable NBC late-night program, McMahon also hosted the syndicated talent show "Star Search" from 1983-95, served as a prominent commercials pitchman for American Family Publishers sweepstakes and many other products and appeared in films and TV shows.

McMahon's impact could be seen in HBO's "The Larry Sanders Show," where Jeffrey Tambor's talk-show sidekick character is based on him, and in "The Shining," where Jack Nicholson's character shouts "Heeeeeeeere's Johnny!" while attempting to kill his wife with an ax.

McMahon was the friendly sidekick throughout Carson's tenure as "Tonight Show" host from 1962-92. Moving to the couch next to Carson after the show's first commercial, he was an excellent foil for Carson's comedy and topical banter. McMahon, who professed affection for "the bubbly," good-naturedly endured Carson's jabs at his drinking, often delivering an amusing W.C. Fields' imitation whenever the least prompted. Many considered him to be the Rock of Gibraltar for Carson, making the host feel secure as he stoically deflected comic misfires.

In addition to his "Tonight Show" duties, McMahon's show business appearances were massive. He hosted a number of specials, including "The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade," "America's Junior Miss Pageant," "The Timex All-Star Circus" and "The Mother's Day Show from Las Vegas." He co-hosted the annual "Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon" for 15 years.

McMahon also served as co-host with Dick Clark on "TV's Bloopers and Practical Jokes" and had a nightclub act.

He appeared on game shows and as himself in dozens of TV shows, and his film credits include "The Incident" (1967) and "Fun With Dick and Jane" (1977).

Talking about McMahon's work on the muscular dystrophy telethon, Jerry Lewis said, "Ed was a dear, dear friend. We were always making jokes, cracking each other up. He cared deeply about people with neuromuscular diseases. On the telethon, he was my right-hand man -- it's hard to imagine doing the show without him. "Of the thousands of celebrities who've helped 'my kids' during the last 50-plus years, none has given more, and given more gladly, than Ed McMahon."

McMahon had money trouble in his later years. In June, it became known that he was fighting foreclosure on his multimillion-dollar Beverly Hills home. In one of his final TV appearances, he appeared in a Cash for Gold commercial that also featured MC Hammer.

Edward Leo McMahon was born March 6, 1923, in Detroit and raised in Lowell, Mass. He began his announcing career by working at carnivals when he was 15, then worked his way through Boston College doing numerous gigs, including his first on-air job announcing for WLLH radio in Lowell.

During World War II, McMahon enlisted in the Marines and served as a fighter pilot. He went on to become a fighter pilot instructor as well as a test pilot.

Following the war, McMahon enrolled at Catholic University in Washington, where he majored in speech and drama. After receiving his B.A., he moved to Philadelphia and wrote, hosted and produced local TV shows. With the breakout of military hostilities in Korea, he was called back to duty, ultimately flying 85 combat missions.

During his military service, he received six medals and ultimately was promoted to the rank of colonel. He returned to Philadelphia in 1952 and joined the ABC affiliate, where he distinguished himself by expanding a five-minute feature news segment and built it into an attention-getter. During that time, he hosted a late-night interview program and for a while played a clown on the show "The Big Top."

In 1957, McMahon auditioned for the announcer position on a daytime quiz show "Who Do You Trust?" He was chosen by the up-and-coming host, Johnny Carson. After four years of polishing their interplay on daytime, the two were rewarded with the "The Tonight Show," and it became a late-night institution, fending off the competitive likes of "The Joey Bishop Show" and "The Dick Cavett Show" as well as a short attempt to revive the late-night career of Jack Paar on a one-week-per-month basis.

McMahon lent his support to a number of charities and scholarship funds, including the Marine Corps Scholarship Fund and St. Jude's Ranch for Children in Boulder, Colo.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - Mike's Movie Review

Ok people, I had to do it. I had to give Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen a HUGEEE trailer! Right now, people are watching the midnight showing...but I had the chance to see it Monday night. What did I think about it?

IT ROCKEDDDDDD...the movie was sick! (Miss Fox is hot!) If you thought the 1st one was great...this one is GREATER!!! (LOL) This is a MUST SEE movie!! I'm actually taking my nephew tomorrow night!

The movie takes place some time after the first one...Sam is now going to college, he's been dating Mikaela now, Bumblebee is still Sam's guardian, and the Autobots are kicking butt. Well, the Decepticon's finally realize that Sam has the "key" to something...not going to ruin it for you...and, well...they go looking for him! It's a battle once again...a HUGEEEE, KICK ASS BATTLE!

This movie has HUGEEEE ACTION, EXPLOSIONS, MORE AUTOBOTS, MORE DECEPTICCONS, MORE EVERYTHING!! Trust me when I say this - this movie kicks ass and you won't be disappointed!!! Heck, take the whole family!!! LOL

Tim Burton Takes on 'Alice in Wonderland'

From the towering skyscrapers of Gotham City, to the foggy village of Sleepy Hollow, on into the candy-colored realm of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, director Tim Burton has built his reputation on bringing wildly imaginative worlds to life. It was just a matter of time before he ventured into one of the earliest and still beloved fantasy worlds in literature: Lewis Carroll's immortal "Alice in Wonderland."

Burton's movie version isn't simply a retelling of the original 1865 novel. It's a new story that has Alice returning to Wonderland as a teenager several years after the events of Carroll's books "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass."

But it's not just the story that will be new and innovative in Burton's adaptation. The film will digitally manipulate footage of real actors to create Wonderland's bizarre inhabitants. Burton told Disney's D23 Magazine, "It's kind of a mixture of some distorted live action and animation. I can't relate it to anything because I'm not sure what to relate it to. It's kind of new territory for me."

The visual style of Burton's take on "Alice in Wonderland" has been a closely-guarded secret up until now. Here are five photos revealing how the stars of the movie have been transformed into Carroll's classic characters.

New 'Transformers' bows No. 1 overseas!

Playing in only two key foreign markets, Paramount's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" from director Michael Bay nonetheless premiered at No. 1 on the international circuit during the weekend, rolling up $20 million from 846 locations.

The sci-fi action sequel to "Transformers," Bay's 2007 smash that grossed $389 million overseas, opened at No. 1 in the U.K. ($14.1 million from 517 screens) and Japan ($5.8 million from 329 sites).

The explosive saga of shape-shifting robots, starring Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox, outperformed the original's opening weekends by 71% in the U.K. and 13% in Japan, according to Paramount. "Revenge" is set to open worldwide Wednesday.

Placing second was Sony's "Terminator Salvation," which dominated the overseas charts last weekend. The fourth title in the action series, starring Christian Bale, grossed $18.4 million from 9,400 screens in 74 territories to raise its international cume to $200 million. The portion from Sony-handled markets is $174.7 million.

The weekend's No. 3 title was Warner Bros.' "The Hangover," which held strongly in the U.

First Look: Sam Worthington in Clash of the Titans

Update #2: Warner Bros has provided us with high resolution copies of the photos that appeared in Entertainment Weekly and Empire Magazine.

Warner Bros has released the first two production photo from Louis Leterrier’s remake of Clash of the Titans. The two stills feature Sam Worthington as Perseus, “the mortal son of Zeus who was born a god but raised as a man.” Worthington was the best part of Terminator Salvation, and I have high hopes for him in Avatar. Check out both of the photos after the jump. As always, click to enlarge.

Helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.

Rounding out the cast is Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace) as Io, Perseus’ mysterious spiritual guide throughout his journey; Mads Mikkelsen (”Casino Royale”) as Draco, who takes up his sword to join Perseus’ quest; Jason Flemyng (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) as Acrisius, a one-time king-turned-hideous beast; and Alexa Davalos (Defiance) as Andromeda, a princess doomed to lose her life if Perseus does not succeed.

Clash of the Titans is currently shooting, and is set for a March 26th 2010 release.

Year One - Mike's Movie Review

I saw Year One on Saturday afternoon before the club...I needed a laugh. Did I get it? YES I did. Jack Black rules!

The movie's about 2 guys (caveman) who get kicked out of their tribe...they pretty much set out for their own adventure...but soon find out...that some of their tribesmen AND 2 of the girls who they have crushes on...have been captured and sold for slaves. They are then determined to save them! It's nuts what these guys go through! LOL...if your looking to laugh...go see Year One!

Year One has a GREAT cast...and...EVERYONE's in it! Check out the trailer and let me know what you think? Peace!

Once YOU see it - let me know what YOU think!

Zombieland Movie Trailer!

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Ruben Fleischer’s Zombieland. Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) has made a habit of running from what scares him. Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) doesn’t have fears. If he did, he’d kick their ever-living ass. In a world overrun by zombies, these two are perfectly evolved survivors. But now, they’re about to stare down the most terrifying prospect of all: each other.

I’ve been calling this a “buddy zombie action comedy” but its more than that. But why try to describe it when the trailer does a great job of presenting the strange comic tone of the film. The screenplay has a lot of clever cutaway shots like “the Zombie kill of the week.” And did I mention that some of the movie takes place in an amusement park? Just imagine all the fun that can be had killing zombies on and around amusement rides… I’ve seen some very cool things while I was on set (but I can’t say anymore until the embargo is lifted next month). Watch the trailer after the jump, and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Zombieland hits theaters on October 9th 2009.

Neve Campbell Turns Down Scream 4!

Don’t expect series star Neve Campbell to return as Sidney Prescott in Scream 4. Series screenwriter Kevin Williamson, who is developing the script for the first part of a new trilogy, has revealed on twitter that Campbell has turned down an offer to return in the next installment.

Trying to figure out a Sid-less scenario. She won’t do it. This sucks

It had been previously reported that Courtney Cox Arquette and David Arquette were in talks to reprise their roles as Gale Weathers and Dwight “Dewey” Riley in the sequel. When Wes Craven was recently asked about the project, he said that Bob Weinstein wants him to direct the film, but he wants to wait and see the screenplay before he decides.

Craven also said that everyone other than Cox and Arquette would be new characters, which leads me to believe that the Campbell’s role would be not much more than a cameo. But Williamson’s statement that he’s “trying to figure out a Sid-less scenario” leads me to beleive that the part was something bigger. Maybe the big reveal would have been that Sidney Prescott was the killer. That would be shocking, but stupid. I really think the best way about going about a new Scream film is to reboot the series.

First Photos: Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland - What Do You Think?

Walt Disney Pictures has released the first promotional photos from Tim Burton’s 3D re-imagining of Alice in Wonderland. Above you can see the first official photo of Johnny Depp as a freakish looking Mad Hatter, Helena Bona Carter as the Red Queen (”Off With Their Heads”), and Anne Hathaway as the very pale-looking The White Queen. After the jump we’ve included newly confirmed details about the films plot (did you know its a kind of a sequel?) and concept art that shows the White Rabbit (Michael Sheen), the egg-shaped Tweedledee and Tweedledum (Matt Lucas) and more.

Halloween 2 Website Gets Updates!

Couple new things of note for Rob Zombies Halloween sequel. Right out of the gate the official site has been updated with some new doo-dads. The other big news is that Uncle Seymour which was supposed to be played by Bill Moseley has been recast and its Jeff Daniel Phillips aka the Geico caveman. I wonder how many of you like me could give a crap about Uncle Seymour Coffins and that whole character.

This isnt devils rejects and for me there is no room for a campy character like this. In case you missed it Goon also shared 3 new official TV spots for the film yesterday which you can watch below.

The official site is here;

The End Is Coming in '2012'?

Few people have destroyed the world more than Roland Emmerich. In his mega-hit "Independence Day," aliens laid waste to pretty much every metropolitan center on the planet, and in his eco-thriller "The Day After Tomorrow," much of the northern hemisphere finds itself buried under ice. In his third crack at presenting the apocalypse, this fall's "2012," Emmerich taps into the angst of thousands of astrologers, doomsday enthusiasts, and conspiracy theorists who fear that a massive cataclysm will strike the earth on December 21 of that year. Yet unlike previous dates tied to the Earth's expiration, this one has its roots in various sources throughout history including interpretations of the Mayan calendar, astrology, and the ancient Chinese fortune-telling text the "I-Ching."

NEW Halloween 2 Movie Poster!

Thanks Liveforfilm!

Must Watch: Destructive Trailer for Roland Emmerich's 2012

Whoa! Roland Emmerich is giving Michael Bay a run for his money! The second full-length trailer for 2012, the apocalyptic end-of-the-world movie, has just hit and it is insanely awesome! I'm trying to contain my enthusiasm, but this is the point where I say screw all the negativity towards Emmerich, I love that guy, because no one else out there goes this big and this crazy with their movies. He really is showing us the end of the world with this one and I love it! You need to watch this, I hate to be so excitable, but this is one of those trailers that you need to drop everything and watch instantly! You won't know what's coming.

FEARnet Breaks Down 'Friday the 13th'

Jason Vorhees. We've seen this psychopath conquer hell, Manhattan and even Elm Street! And, as you all very well know, on Friday, February 13, 2009 Platinum Dunes brought Jason's burned, drowned, toxic-waste-doused, electrocuted, mutilated, hockey-masked face back to the big screen for a $50 million opening weekend. This week sees the DVD release of not only Platinum Dunes' relaunch, but the deluxe edition DVDs of three films in the original classic series: Friday the 13th Parts IV, V, and VI. What better time to reflect on the films that earned Mr. Voorhees so much fame? And what better way than to rank all 10 original Friday the 13th films in all their topless, bloody, impaled-through-a-tree-stump glory?

Read on for our top 10, and let us know where you think Platinum Dunes' new Friday should rank!

'True Blood' shines

HBO's second-season premiere of "True Blood" earned a series record-setting 3.7 million viewers, making it the most-watched program on the network since "The Sopranos' " finale two years ago.

Despite facing the last game of the NBA Finals, the Sunday telecast was up 157% compared to the first-season premiere and up 51% from the first-season finale.

If you fold in the show's 11 p.m. encore, "True Blood" was seen by 5.1 million viewers, easily the largest Sunday total for the series.

Meanwhile, rival premium network Showtime had good news as well. The second episode of "Nurse Jackie" on Monday night was up 8% to 1.1 million viewers after last week's record-setting premiere. The first-week cumulative viewership for all airings of the "Jackie" premiere was 3.7 million.

Also on cable: The third episode of TLC's "Jon & Kate Plus 8" included a visit with the Teutul family from "American Chopper," yet the reality show's viewership continued to slide.

"Jon & Kate" was seen by 2.9 million viewers, down 31% from last week, which in turn was down 41% from its enormous 9.8 million season premiere.

Two sharp drops were expected given the show's tabloid-fueled debut, and 2.9 million is about the same as the show's fourth-season average.

Updated: Help Reclaim a Barker Classic!

Updated 6/9/09: Barker just announced via his twitter account

that Phil and Sarah Stokes, who maintain his official website, have a video copy of his work print of Nightbreed that is 44 minutes longer than the theatrical cut. "Now all we need is somebody to fund the reconstruction of what was always intended to be Celebration of the Shamanic Outsider," says Barker.

Fans who've long been clamoring for a director's cut of Clive Barker's fascinating Nightbreed now have reason to hope, if not yet outright rejoice: the film's once believed lost footage has been located by Barker's friend Mark Miller. Now the trick is getting the company that owns the footage to release it so a proper director's cut can be made. What can you do you to help? Find out after the jump.

EXCLUSIVE - Derek Mears Talks 'Friday the 13th' Sequel

With the DVD/Blu-ray release of the Friday the 13th remake 'Killer Cut' edition hitting shelves June 16th, we thought it would be fun to sit down with Jason Vorhees himself, Derek Mears, to reminisce about Jason's most recent escapades. Expect to see the full video here soon, in the mean time, check out what Derek had to say about a potential Friday the 13th sequel after the jump.

When asked about the direction he’d like to see the sequel, here's what Derek had to say:

“I would like to take it in the same direction they are doing it now, keeping it based in reality. I know for a fact that when the writers wrote the first one they didn't go super elaborate on the kills because they expected to do a sequel, figuring it was gonna be a hit so for the sequel they wanted to leave somewhere for them to go so they could do bigger more elaborate over the top kills. I'm excited about seeing that, that's what I would like to see in the sequel.

I don't know what they are planning on doing for the sequel, honestly, but in my opinion, I think less is more. If you just touch on aspects of his past, it's like the monster outside of the box theory; it's scarier when you don't know. I myself wouldn't want to see what he was like when he was younger. I would like to touch on it, but then move on.”

Platinum Dunes is currently working on a reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street, which is shooting in Chicago now. We can't help but wonder if a Friday the 13th sequel won't be their next project. What do you think?
